On December 1, 2009, the internet marketing world will change. It will change for the better for some and for others, it will change for the worst. The new FTC laws will take effect. This is the first time in the history of the internet that the FTC has taken such a heavy hand in regulating what is said, sold and conduct online.

These laws will put many out of business, put in jail, fined thousands of dollars and bank assets frozen. What can you do now to avoid being prosecuted? It is simple; get your entire websites in compliance now. Get your business plans in order. Get your documentation to back up your claims and endorsements in order.

It only takes one compliant for the FTC to come knocking. If you aren’t prepared, it can go badly for you. Getting in compliance is easy, staying there is hard. Laws will change and become more defined. Court findings that did not affect you December 1st, may affect you in the future. It is going to be a very tough year to do business, but if you are ethical in your business dealings and have adequate documentation to back up every single word on your blog or website, then you will have nothing to worry about.

For those that have many websites it may be even harder to keep up, but it is better than the alternative. As the laws change and the environment we do business in becomes more stable, I will be updating this site with those changes.
